Comprehensive Evaluations

Dr. Cordiano specializes in comprehensive evaluations to address questions related to learning, attention, executive functioning, anxiety, general social-emotional functioning, and giftedness. A comprehensive evaluation can help identify a child's unique strengths and challenges and provide valuable information about how children approach problems and learn in different contexts. Most importantly, evaluations result in specialized recommendations to help each child maximize his or her potential.

What does a comprehensive evaluation entail?

Every comprehensive evaluation begins with a diagnostic intake appointment with parents (or with parents and older children/adolescents) to gather a thorough developmental history and better understand presenting concerns. At the end of this initial appointment, Dr. Cordiano shares her impressions and develops a plan with the family. Typically, specific assessments are administered over the course of 2-3 testing appointments that are several hours in length.

Depending on the referral question, a comprehensive evaluation may include:

  • Classroom observations

  • Cognitive assessment

  • Assessment of specific academic skills (reading, writing, math)

  • Assessment of language skills

  • Assessment of attention and executive functioning

  • Assessment of mood, anxiety, behavior, and personality

  • Consultation with teachers, tutors, or outside clinicians to gather additional data

What happens after the evaluation has been completed?

After the evaluation is complete, Dr. Cordiano meets with parents to review the results and to give parents a copy of the evaluation report. During this appointment, special focus is given to explaining the findings from the evaluation and reviewing specific recommendations. Following this appointment, Dr. Cordiano is available to meet with the child/teenager to review general results/recommendations or to meet with school personnel, if requested by parents.
